Your physical therapist needs to be informed about you as a patient to provide you with the best possible treatment. There are quite a few pieces of information your physical therapist will want from you when you begin treatment.

The following are seven important pieces of information you should discuss with your physical therapist when you begin physical therapy treatment. 

The medications you're taking

One of the most important things your physical therapist needs to know about you is what medications you're taking. Medications you're taking could impact your physical therapy treatment and any additional supplements or medications your physical therapist recommends to you. 

The athletic activities you're currently involved in

It's important that you discuss athletic activities you're currently participating in with your physical therapist.

If you're involved in athletic activity, it's important that you don't overexert yourself in physical therapy sessions. Your physical therapist will make recommendations to you regarding what types of athletic activity you can engage in without the risk of aggravating your injury. 

The symptoms you're experiencing

Your physical therapist needs to carefully observe the initial symptoms you present with as well as how you respond to treatment.

It's important to tell your physical therapist right away if you notice additional pain or discomfort. Communication is key when it comes to overcoming an injury with physical therapy treatment. 

The past medical conditions and treatments you've experienced

As such, it's important that you discuss the frequency of appointments as well as how long appointments will be necessary to see results.
