Getting Ready For Baby: 4 Things You Must Do

by Elmer Perry

You've meticulously decorated the nursery. The bed is put together and all made up, just waiting for baby to arrive. You have cases of diapers at the ready. You even installed safety gear all over your home. You're all set, right? While all of these things are important, they're not the most important things you should be doing to get ready for your new arrival. In fact, they're not really even necessary for the life and health of your baby, at least not during the first few months. However, the following are. Here are four things you must do before the arrival of your baby.

Find a Pediatrician

Start looking for a pediatrician several months before the birth of your baby. While choosing a provider that accepts your insurance is important and can take quite some time, you also have to choose someone that you like and trust. You may have to talk to several doctors before you find one that's a good fit. You will have a very close relationship with your child's doctor for a long time, so choose wisely.

Ask for Help

Now is the time to ask for help. Have several people lined up who will help you with errands and chores after the birth of the baby. Also, start looking at childcare options. Your return to work may seem like it's a lifetime away, but it will happen quicker than you think. It's vital that you have help and childcare that you can trust lined up before you have to start thinking about going off to work.

Establish a Budget

Work baby expenses into your budget before the baby arrives. This will give you a clear idea of how much money it's actually going to take to care for your little one. Don't forget to include obscure or one-time expenses, such as doctor co-pays and bottles either. Every little expense really adds up, and you must make sure that you have enough money put aside to cover it.

Learn Infant CPR

Learning CPR is the most important thing you can do for your baby. You never know what's going to happen, and it takes time, too much time, for medics to arrive. You have to be prepared to save your baby's life without hesitation. It takes knowledge to do so with confidence, so make sure both you and your partner take classes.

As you can see, there are several things you must do to get ready for the birth of your baby. Picking out furniture and clothes is fun, but you can't forget to take care of the important stuff, like finding a doctor and learning CPR. For more information, contact local professionals like Emergency Response CPR.
