Signs That You Are Dealing With A Sinus Infection

by Elmer Perry

If you want to make sure that you are going to feel better as quickly as possible, you need to know just what it is that you are dealing with. This way, it can be treated properly. To help you determine whether or not you are truly dealing with a sinus infection, you will want to check out the following signs and symptoms.

Pain In Your Face

One of the most commonly complained about symptoms of a sinus infection is probably that of the pain that goes along with it. Some people may experience worse pain than others and it may hurt in some places worse than other spots, but the pain is usually easily recognizable. The most common areas to receive sinus infection pain in the face include behind your nasal cavity and above and below your eyes. You could also feel a lot of pain in your jaw or in your tooth as the build up of infection is trying to find various places to go to as it fills your head. It may feel like you have an immense amount of pressure just building up to the point that it is pressing on the nerves in your face.

Sinus Discharge

A tissue of some mucus-like substance in your tissue after sneezing does not mean that you have a sinus infection. However, blowing yellow-green stuff out of your nose does indicate that you are dealing with a sinus infection. You might even notice that some of this same gross looking discharge can be coughed up by you. This is because some of the sinus drainage can bypass your nasal passage and end up trickling down your throat until you cough it right up.

A Cough That Gets Worse When Laying Down

A cough by itself is not an immediate sign of a sinus infection. However, an irritating cough that simply will not go away and that actually gets worse when you are laying down, could very well be a sign of an infection. This is because the sinus infection drainage is having a harder time making its way through past your nasal cavity and down your throat because of the position of your body. This then irritates your throat and causes you to cough more when you are laying down.

Now that you have read through the previously mentioned signs of a sinus infection, you will want to be sure to call a family doctor or professional (such as one from Sinus Center-Idaho) should you suspect that this is something that you are indeed dealing with. This way, you will be able to be treated and will feel better as soon as possible.
