How To Enjoy The Great Outdoors While Minimizing Sun Damage Risk

by Elmer Perry

Although the sun is vital for life on the planet, it can have some harmful effects as well. Too much sun exposure can cause damage to your skin. Sun damage can cause premature aging and even skin cancer. Let's take a look at how you can minimize the risks of sun damage while still enjoying the outdoors.

Hike On Heavily Wooded Trails

There are plenty of trails that you can choose to hike on. If you want to avoid being exposed to a lot of direct sunlight, choose trails that go through densely wooded areas. Always hike with another person for safety purposes.

Ski On Cloudy Days

A good number of people don't know that you can get sunburn in the winter months. Ultraviolet(UV) radiation can reflect off the snow and cause sunburn. In order to reduce the risk of sun damage, only ski on cloudy days. According to the Environmental Protection Agency(EPA), UV radiation is reduced on cloudy days. Also, be sure to use sunblock and ski goggles whenever you go skiing for sun damage repair.

Avoid Midday Activities

If you want to enjoy the outdoors, do so in the early morning or late evening. This is when sunlight isn't as strong. Harmful radiation is usually at its peak from mid-morning until mid-afternoon.

Don't Forget The Shades

Shades don't just make you look cool. They can be used to protect your eyes from sun damage. Whenever you are out and about during the day, try to wear sunglasses.

You can purchase a pair of swimming goggles that can function as shades while you are swimming at the beach. Goggles also help protect your eyes from any irritants that may be in the water.

Invest In A Tent

You can purchase a small tent from a sporting goods store. Such a tent can be set up in minutes. With a tent, you can have instant shade while you are enjoying a day outside at the park. Whether it's a cookout or just hanging out reading a book, you'll be covered from direct sunlight.

Rent A Boat

Renting a boat is yet another way to get out in nature with out having to bake in the sun. There are boats that you can rent that offer cover. You can enjoy a peaceful time on the water while sitting under the canopy of a boat.

Use the above tips to enjoy the outdoors while reducing the sun's negative effects on your skin. Be sure to wear sunscreen when outdoors.
