Don't Panic If Your New Implants Don't Look Perfect: Dropping And Fluffing

by Elmer Perry

Many women panic when they see their new breast implants. They think that the doctor has made some sort of mistake and their breasts are ruined. Well, before going to another doctor and trying to have the implants redone, make sure you understand dropping and fluffing:

Dropping and Fluffing Basics

When you first get implants they sit high on the chest. They are also a bit tight. This will give the breasts a high and compact look. It won't look like what you imagined.

One reason that this occurs is that the pectoral muscle swells during the surgery. This causes the implants to be lifted up higher than normal on the chest.

Many women see this and think that their implants turned out horribly. This is not the case. The implants need to "settle". Part of this process entails letting the pectoral muscles normalize. The swelling needs to go away.

This can take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months. The larger the implants, the longer the process can take.

Monitor Your Progress

The best way to see changes is by taking photos of your implants. That way you can compare them week-to-week. If you look at your breasts in the mirror every day, you might not notice changes. However, comparing photos from day 1 and day 30 should show you the improvement.

Massage Techniques To Assist Drop And Fluff

You don't have to sit around and wait for your new breasts to drop and fluff, you can help the process along with massage. Gently, but purposefully, breast massage will help smooth the implant and move it down lower on your chest.

Here is a video showing several massage techniques you can use:

Breast Band: Help Shape The Implants

Besides massage, another method to help with drop and fluff is to wear a breast band. These are compression garments designed to push the implants downward. You should speak to your physician before wearing these. Depending on the speed of your drop and fluff progress, it might not be necessary.

When choosing a breast band it is important to pick one that is a good fit. It its too tight it can force the implants down too soon and this might cause an injury. If it is too loose, it won't do anything. That's why its a good idea to consult with your physician before buying one. They might even have a special brand of band in mind for you to use.
